Peterswell unlucky not to advance past group stages

Peterswell were unlucky not to advance past the group stages of this year’s mini 7’s competition after losing out narrowly to New Inn in their penultimate group game.
The south Galway side had won all of their previous group games and would go on to beat Kilbeacanty comprehensively in their final group game. For this reason the New Inn encounter would prove decisive.
Peterswell began the day strongly with a hard fought 4-2 to 3-0 win over Bullaun. Niamh Walsh and Mia Mullroe both netted a brace of goals. Abbie Massey and Lena Fahy both contributed a point each.
The next game would prove to be the group’s most important game. New Inn was the opposition this time and with a strong wind blowing, Peterswell decided to deploy a sweeper against the wind in the first half. When the final whistle was blown only a goal separated the teams. The fantastic full forward Mia Mulroe hit the net again for Peterswell. However it would not be enough to put Peterswell through to the final, bar an upset in the last round of group games. The final score line was 1-1 to 2-1.
In the final round of group games Peterswell accounted for Kilbeacanty on a score line of 4-2 to 0-0. However it would not be enough as New Inn would beat Bullaun to see themselves through to the final.
Following this Peterswell played Leitrim in a shield competition. Peterswell were again victors in this encounter. The scorers were Mia Mulroe, Niamh Walsh, Abbie Massey and Lena Fahy with a long range effort.

Finally a challenge game with Kilchreest was organised and all members of the panel got a run.
Peterswell Mini 7’s

Peterswell were competing in a mini 7’s competition in Gort pitch on Friday 30th of September. Their opponents were Lough Cutra, Lurga, Kiltartan and Kilchreest.
Peterswell started off with a very narrow one point win over Lough Cutra with scores from our midfielder Evan Brady and forward Darren Farrell. At half time Peterswell were leading 0-2 to 0-1.With two minutes to go in the second half Peterswell were leading by 4 points but conceded a late goal to narrow it down to one point. However with the clock running down, Peterswell saw out the final few minutes and came out on top.
Next Peterswell faced Lurga in a game where Peterswell would win on a score line of 4-1 to 0-3 with more scores coming from Evan and Darren who netted two goals each. Diarmuid Gillard performed well in goals, while Gary Kennedy and Declan Fitzgerald were as solid as rocks in defence.
Following the Lurga game Peterswell would face Kiltartan. This game saw excellent performances from Cian Fennessy and Brian Egan but in the end Peterswell would lose by single point with a score line of 2-1 to 2-2.
Peterswell’s final game was against Kilchreest and would prove to be our most vital match of the day. Peterswell fought until the end of the match but in the end Kilchreest would come out with the victory and go on to beat Tierneevin in the final.
