October 2015 in the Senior Room

The month of October has flown by in the senior room! We've been kept busy with sporting and artistic endeavours in particular this month.

The first tournament of the year was the boys mini-7's hurling tournament. The competition took place in Gort GAA grounds. We fielded a strong team but we were, unfortunately without the services of Pádraic Dooley who just missed out as a result of age restrictions. We did well in the tournament and our students gave a good account of themselves. Ben Mulcair was our captain and led by example throughout.

The same week our girls took part in the camogie competition which was held in St. Thomas' GAA grounds. Our girls gave some rousing displays throughout, winning all of our group games bar one. We were unfortunately beaten by an extremely strong Kilnadeema side, who qualified for the final as a result of their victory and who would eventually go on to win the tournament. Ailbhe Flannery was our captain and proved to be a great role model for her team mates. Lean Fahy wrote a recount of the days events and this can be seen in older posts below.

The final competition was the Garda tournament which is an annual event in Gort GAA grounds. It is organised by the local Gardaí Síochána and is run in an extremely proficient manner. We fielded a mixture of boys and girls and the day was thoroughly enjoyed by the students.

We have been studying ancient China this month in the senior room and decided to create some Chinese Opera masks in art class. It is fitting for the time of year and the children have been working hard to create strong papier maché bases. They are works in progress and hopefully the end product will reflect the work the children are putting into them!
