on County Final 2016
On the 9th of June 2016 we played our 11 a-side
schools county final in Loughgeorge. We were to play Renmore NS. We left the
school at 10:30am on Eamon Hansberry’s bus. We arrived at 11:20am to play our
match at 12:00 noon. We got togged in the dressing room and then acted as
spectators while Ballyglass NS fought out their match, which they won.
Then we
warmed up on the astro-turf pitch. Next we lined out on the pitch in our
positions:
Liam Collins in goals, Padraic Dooley and Ailbhe Flannery in
the full back line then Gary kennedy and Jamie Hoey in the half back line, Evan
Brady and Ben Mulcair in midfield, then Declan Fitzgerald and TJ Prendergast in
the half forward line and Shauna Dooley-Glynn and Darren Farrell in the full
forward line.
We started the first half very well with two early goals from Shauna
and a long-range goal from midfield by Jamie Hoey. The score at half time was 5-2
to 0-2 to Peterswell NS. We dominated the second half with scores from TJ, Shauna,
Ben, Darren and Declan. The final score was 9-5 to 1-4 to Peterswell NS.
The
chairman of the Galway Co. board, Noel Treacy presented our captain Liam
Collins with the cup. Liam then provided a stellar speech, thanking both
supporters and mentors. Finally he thanked Renmore for a hard fought game. Next
there was a presentation of medals to the players by Conor Cooney.
We went back to Supermacs in Gort for a feast of high calorie
food .Then we went back to school as county champions. To cap off the day we
met again at 7pm for a tour of the parish. It was a great day all around and we
were very proud of our accomplishment.
