Winter Sports in Peterswell NS
As winter closes in and with the pitch becoming less playable we have decided to organise uni hoc tournaments to keep our students active throughout rainy days. The tournament takes a round robin format where each team will play each other twice. The top two teams at the end of the series will compete in a final. The teams are available to view on the school blog under our ''Active School'' page. Along with more information regarding our active school initiative!

Peterswell
unlucky not to advance past group stages
Peterswell
were unlucky not to advance past the group stages of this year’s mini 7’s
competition after losing out narrowly to New Inn in their penultimate group
game.
The south
Galway side had won all of their previous group games and would go on to beat
Kilbeacanty comprehensively in their final group game. For this reason the New
Inn encounter would prove decisive.
Peterswell
began the day strongly with a hard fought 4-2 to 3-0 win over Bullaun. Niamh
Walsh and Mia Mullroe both netted a brace of goals. Abbie Massey and Lena Fahy
both contributed a point each.
The next game
would prove to be the group’s most important game. New Inn was the opposition
this time and with a strong wind blowing, Peterswell decided to deploy a
sweeper against the wind in the first half. When the final whistle was blown
only a goal separated the teams. The fantastic full forward Mia Mulroe hit the
net again for Peterswell. However it would not be enough to put Peterswell
through to the final, bar an upset in the last round of group games. The final
score line was 1-1 to 2-1.
In the final
round of group games Peterswell accounted for Kilbeacanty on a score line of
4-2 to 0-0. However it would not be enough as New Inn would beat Bullaun to see
themselves through to the final.
Following
this Peterswell played Leitrim in a shield competition. Peterswell were again
victors in this encounter. The scorers were Mia Mulroe, Niamh Walsh, Abbie
Massey and Lena Fahy with a long range effort.
Finally a
challenge game with Kilchreest was organised and all members of the panel got a
run.
Peterswell Mini 7’s
Peterswell
were competing in a mini 7’s competition in Gort pitch on Friday 30th
of September. Their opponents were Lough Cutra, Lurga, Kiltartan and
Kilchreest.
Peterswell
started off with a very narrow one point win over Lough Cutra with scores from our
midfielder Evan Brady and forward Darren Farrell. At half time Peterswell were
leading 0-2 to 0-1.With two minutes to go in the second half Peterswell were
leading by 4 points but conceded a late goal to narrow it down to one point. However
with the clock running down, Peterswell saw out the final few minutes and came
out on top.
Next
Peterswell faced Lurga in a game where Peterswell would win on a score line of
4-1 to 0-3 with more scores coming from Evan and Darren who netted two goals
each. Diarmuid Gillard performed well in goals, while Gary Kennedy and Declan
Fitzgerald were as solid as rocks in defence.
Following
the Lurga game Peterswell would face Kiltartan. This game saw excellent
performances from Cian Fennessy and Brian Egan but in the end Peterswell would lose
by single point with a score line of 2-1 to 2-2.
Peterswell’s final game was against Kilchreest
and would prove to be our most vital match of the day. Peterswell fought until
the end of the match but in the end Kilchreest would come out with the victory
and go on to beat Tierneevin in the final.

Report on County Final 2016
Report
on County Final 2016
On the 9th of June 2016 we played our 11 a-side
schools county final in Loughgeorge. We were to play Renmore NS. We left the
school at 10:30am on Eamon Hansberry’s bus. We arrived at 11:20am to play our
match at 12:00 noon. We got togged in the dressing room and then acted as
spectators while Ballyglass NS fought out their match, which they won.
Then we
warmed up on the astro-turf pitch. Next we lined out on the pitch in our
positions:
Liam Collins in goals, Padraic Dooley and Ailbhe Flannery in
the full back line then Gary kennedy and Jamie Hoey in the half back line, Evan
Brady and Ben Mulcair in midfield, then Declan Fitzgerald and TJ Prendergast in
the half forward line and Shauna Dooley-Glynn and Darren Farrell in the full
forward line.
We started the first half very well with two early goals from Shauna
and a long-range goal from midfield by Jamie Hoey. The score at half time was 5-2
to 0-2 to Peterswell NS. We dominated the second half with scores from TJ, Shauna,
Ben, Darren and Declan. The final score was 9-5 to 1-4 to Peterswell NS.
The
chairman of the Galway Co. board, Noel Treacy presented our captain Liam
Collins with the cup. Liam then provided a stellar speech, thanking both
supporters and mentors. Finally he thanked Renmore for a hard fought game. Next
there was a presentation of medals to the players by Conor Cooney.
We went back to Supermacs in Gort for a feast of high calorie
food .Then we went back to school as county champions. To cap off the day we
met again at 7pm for a tour of the parish. It was a great day all around and we
were very proud of our accomplishment.

January 2016 Senior Room
Welcome back to everyone in the senior room! There is lots to look forward to this term. The senior room will be beginning preparation for their confirmation. This will include lots of confirmation themed artwork. Keep an eye out for future posts of these creations. As well as confirmation, the seniors will be preparing for their Easter concert. This year a drama entitled ''Where There's a Will'' by Bernadette Melia will be performed in front of an audience of parents and classmates. Having just attended a performance of ''West Side Story'' by students in Gort community school, the children have more than enough inspiration for their own performance. Who knows St Thomas' N.S. might be home to the next Saoirse Ronan or Michael Fassbender!
